Scouts

Scouts are the next section of the Scouting movement after Cubs and is for the older boys and girls covering the age range 10 ½ – 14 years.

In 1st Swindon, Sea Scouting has the same purpose and goals as any other Scout Troop, however the main difference lays in the method of delivery.

This is because in Sea Scouting, water and nautical activities are used as the basis of delivering the Balanced Programme. Although most Scouts have the opportunity for boating activities, such as sailing and canoeing, the Sea Scout programme puts considerable emphasis on water activities and also incorporates many aspects of naval and nautical traditions.

Our year is spit into two.

  • From April – October, we meet on a Friday evening at Bowmoor and the scouts sail, kayak, canoe, and build and race rafts, as well at taking part in several camps.
  • Between October – March, we meet on a Friday evening at The Wick, During the winter months we do not just stay in the hall, we also get out and about, hiking and taking part in district activities. For example; Street Wise, Archery, Riffle Shooting and the Les Barnes night hike.

In the scout section youngsters will also have the opportunity to take part in the Swindon Gang Show and the World Jamboree.
