Explorers

With a strong focus on water activities, the Posiedon Explorer Sea Scout Unit offers real challenge and excitement for young men and women aged 14 to 18.

With exclusive access to a fleet of kayaks, sailing dinghies, and power craft, members are able to develop their boating skills and extend their experience under the supervision of qualified Leaders.

During the period April – October we meet at Bowmoor Sailing Club,
During the period October – April we meet at ‘The Wick’.

As members of Bowmoor Sailing Club we are also able to offer training and qualifications of the Royal Yachting Association.

The Explorer Scout programme is based around six programme zones:

  • Outdoor and Adventure
  • Global
  • Community
  • Fit for Life
  • Creative
  • Beliefs and Attitudes

All Explorer Scout units are expected to follow a programme that is balanced across these zones. There are a number of major awards to be gained in the Explorer Scout section, these focus around the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme, Explorer Scouts can also gain their Chief Scouts Awards. Additionally, there are specialist activity badges in a variety of activities.

Uniform

The Explorer scout uniform consists of:

  • Blue Shirt
  • Dark Blue activity trousers
  • Black/Dark Blue socks
  • Black shoes
  • Group white necker (scarf)
  • Leather Scout belt and buckle
  • Lanyard, Normally worn with Bosun’s call (Optional)

In North Swindon there are 6 Explorer Groups

As a member of an Explorer section you are entitled to join in with any other Group activities as well.
