Cub Indian Tribal Camp – Sep 2017

Back to Basics – Indian Tribal Camp – September 2017

Some 18 Drake Pack cubs along with leaders and parent volunteers enjoyed a great weekend in the Gloucestershire countryside at our ‘back to basics camp’.

We camped at the Scouting activity camp site at Cranham which is noted for its hills and sloping pitches!

We chose a theme of Indian Tribal and the activities were related to this. Cranham has two areas to camp in and we used Daniels Grove as it is away from the rest of the camp site and hidden in a valley amongst steep sides and trees with a stream running through the middle. We had no runing hot water and no electricity for the camp as the cable linking the site from the main area had broken – it was a proper back to basics theme.

As well as a traditional camp fire and songs during the weekend we enjoyed rope making, fire lighting, learning about tracking and setting our own trails, making bows and arrows, dam building, cooking on embers, making and sailing paper boats with night lights down the stream amongst many other activities.

Before the camp the Cubs prepared signs and totum poles for their tents and during the weekend we wore themed neckers, and dressed up as an Indian tribe!

We would like to thank everyone who helped before the weekend and also those who camped and supported us during the weekend as well as the Cranham Scout Centre for allowing us to use their fantastic facilities.
